i received my optcard in may and i am working right now. But now i am asked to take 1 more class in school without which i would not receive my degree. I need help to find out if i can enroll for that course and still work being in OPT? What are the possibilities and options for me?

You can still work on OPT while taking class. It doesn't have to be necessarily after all course works are completed.

hey makar tantra could you please explain me what do you mean by "after all course works are completed". Actually i applied for my OPT in Feb when i was in last semester of my study. I completed that sem and received my OPT card too. Now university is saying me that i need to do one more 3 credit course in order to get my masters degree. this is my situation. and i cant leave my work as they are hiring me in permanent position in late september. So i wanted to know since i am again taking a class, do i need to re issue my i-20? or i can just enroll in class and am i allowed to work or not after enrolling in that class?

I meant you don't need to wait until you finish all course work in order to use OPT. After completion of you first 9 academic months, you can use your OPT anytime you want. It can be used during you are in school or right after you graduate. It's your choice.

take class while in OPT. you can do it. and start your job when they want to. mention your situation to your internatioal advisor. you dont need another I 20.

ONCE YOUR TIME IN OPT IS UP, YOU HAVE 60 DAYS TO PACK YOUR BAG AND HEADED OUT FROM US.

IF YOU NEED THE CONTINUATION EITHER CHANGE YOUR STATUS TO WORKING VISA, WHICH IS MOST COMMONLY KNOWN AS H1B, OR IF YOU HAVE RECEIVED OPT BASED ON YOUR AS/BS/MS DEGREE, GET ANOTHER I-20 FROM SCHOOL ON WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING NEXT.

YOU COULD HAVE APPLIED FOR GRADUATION AFTER YOU HAVE COMPLETED THE COURSE, AND THUS APPLY FOR OPT. SINCE YOU GRADUATED LEAVING ONE CLASS STILL TO GO, AND RECEIVED OPT, YOU MUST FINISH THAT PENDING CLASS IN ORDER TO GET THE DEGREE COMPLETION CERTIFICATE. YOU CAN TAKE CLASS NOW, OR IF YOU WANT, YOU CAN TAKE IT LATER. BUT ONCE YOUR OPT IS UP, YOU HAVE ONLY 60 DAYS TO ADJUST YOUR STATUS.
